Atlantic Salmon Pattern Introduction:
I tied the Atlantic salmon flies displayed here; they are designed to be presented according to the methods and techniques described in my book: Buck Bug Magic: Catch more Atlantic Salmon for sale online at Amazon.com. If you are not inclined to purchase my book, it's OK. The Atlantic salmon "fishing tips" link on this web site leads to a Tips for Atlantic Salmon Fishing page that summarize the book's basic methods and techniques and you may copy them for reference. However this summary is just the rules and doesn't contain the explanations as to why these methods are effective, so you will probably be better off purchasing the book which will enhance your own streamside judgment.
Hook alert! All the flies on this web site are tied on older Mustad™ Classic hooks (no longer manufactured and difficult to find). My experience with these hooks has been that a higher percent of strikes become hook-ups, and of these hook-ups the landing percentage is well over 80 percent. Click the "Hook Alert" link on this web site and read, Beware the New Atlantic Salmon and Steelhead "Micro Barb" Hooks. Eventually the hook manufacturers will discover their mistake. In the mean time, I suggest using a magnifying glass to judge the size and design of the barbs on the hooks used to make the flies you purchase or tie yourself.
